Where: Northstar Park, Davis, south of the pond
Cost: Donation-based
Who: All levels, all ages — I've had practitioners from their 20s
through their 80s on the mat beside each other.
What to bring
-
Your yoga mat
-
A water bottle
-
Optional: any props you like to use, or a blanket/towel to lay under your mat to keep it clean
What to expect
We practice in a circle, in the shade, so there's no direct sun to contend with. It's relaxed, welcoming, and unhurried — a great place to start if you're new to yoga, and equally good if you've been practicing for years.
Suggested donation
Truly, pay what you can. The going rate for a single drop-in class is $20–30. I mention this because some people find that a helpful benchmark, but really, donate what feels right for you. It's about your own access to the practice, and it's also about what makes it possible for this class to keep existing at all, and to remain open to whoever needs it. Give less if that's what your circumstances call for this season. Give more if you're able and inclined, knowing it helps hold space for someone who can't right now. Every bit is appreciated, and every bit matters to keeping this offering alive and accessible for this whole community.
Payment accepted: Cash or Venmo
FAQs
Do I need experience to come?
Not at all. This is an all-levels class, and I'll always offer options so you can find what feels right in your body that day.
Can I bring my kids?
Yes — families are welcome. There's a playground within view of where we practice, so kids can play nearby while you practice, sit and color or read quietly beside you, or even join in the yoga themselves. I only ask that play stay outside the practice circle so it doesn't distract from everyone's practice — including yours. This is your time too.
What if it rains?
Class happens weather permitting. One of the reasons I love for folks to RSVP is that in the unlikely event that we need to cancel, I will be in touch with you directly.
Do I need to RSVP?
Not at all — you're always welcome to just show up. That said, RSVPing helps in a couple of small ways: it means I can reach you directly if class is ever canceled for weather (this has happened only once in six years!), and it gives me a general sense of how many people to expect, so if a few RSVP'd folks are running a couple minutes behind, I know to wait for them. But if life gets busy and you just show up instead, solo or with friends, that's completely fine too.
Is this the same as your online membership classes?
No membership or subscription required! Yoga in the Park is open to the community.
Where exactly do we meet in the park?
South of the pond and east of the playground in the shade of an oak tree. Click here for a map.
